Jewelry TLC

Fine jewelry is easy to care for. To keep your new Masymetric piece in pristine condition, follow these simple guidelines.

  • Don’t wear your jewelry when showering or swimming as the chlorine that’s added to the water may be harmful to some gemstones.

  • Don’t wear your jewelry while doing heavy activities.

  • Don’t wear your jewelry in bed. Chains can become tangled easily, you may lose your earrings, or be hurt by ear studs. Our bodies retain fluids during sleep so rings and bracelets may cut off you blood circulation. Keep a simple jewelry dish on your night stand to easily remember to take your jewels off before going to bed.

  • Always store your jewelry in the packaging it came in, or in a compartmentalized jewelry case as oppose to keeping all your pieces in a common jewelry box. This minimizes their contact with each other preserving their finish and luster. Try to keep diamonds away from your other stones to minimize scratching or damaging them.

  • If you decide to store all your pieces in one box, make sure each piece has some space around it and no two pieces are in contact. Pro tip: keep each piece in an individual cotton pouch to help protect it.

  • Jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. This will protect it from snagging on your clothes or getting clogged with traces of make up or creams.

  • Never use any cleaning dips, tarnish removers or any other jewelry cleaning products to clean your fine jewelry, these products may strip away the high luster and end up dulling your gold instead of cleaning it. Jewelry cleaning products may also hurt your skin.

  • Clean your fine jewelry with warm water and soap. You can scrub it gently with a soft toothbrush.

  • For deeper cleaning, your best bet is to take your fine jewelry to a reputable jeweler. They will be able to quickly clean it using their ultrasonic machine and steamer. They will also be able to quickly check it for any loose settings and easily buff out any scratches.

  • Have your jewelry checked by a professional jeweler every 2 to 3 years to avoid accumulative damage and loss of stones. It is also recommended to do this in order to keep your high value appraisals up to date.
