Masymetric is a handcrafted jewelry brand that aspires to be known for its unique highly detailed asymmetric pieces.
We use rich textures and eye-catching details inspired by moonscape terrain and heavily influenced by elements of flora and fauna.
The process of developing a piece of jewelry starts with researching an interesting element of the natural world, like the shape of under water corral, or the structure of butterfly’s wing. We then abstract this element into stylized drawings, building the concept for the entire collection.
Each piece is manufactured by hand from scratch here in Toronto, using the finest metals and highest grade stones. We often work with recycled metal, and are conscientious about our foot print on the planet.
First, we melt scrap metal or casting grain to make ingots that become sheets or wires. Then according to the design requirements, we might reticulate the silver (a technique of texturing using fire). Then we cut the design and clean the edges. We then solder the piece and work harden it if required. Next we give it a lustrous polish or apply a brushed finish to some parts. Then, if the design requires, we set the stones or oxidize the piece and give it a protective layer. Then Mays gives it a name and the piece is off to photography.
